NIA Begins Mop-Up Ghana Card Registration for Children in Volta and Oti Regions

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced a special mop-up registration exercise targeting children between the ages of six and fourteen in selected districts across the Volta and Oti Regions. (MyJoyOnline)
The exercise is intended to provide another opportunity for eligible children who were unable to register during the initial phase of the national identification programme.
Officials explained that the registration drive will run for approximately one month and will be conducted in designated schools and registration centres throughout the affected districts.
The Ghana Card remains a critical component of Ghana’s digital transformation agenda, serving as a primary identification document for accessing numerous public and private services.
According to the NIA, increasing registration among children will improve national records and support future planning in sectors such as education, healthcare, and social protection.
Parents and guardians have been encouraged to take advantage of the exercise to ensure that eligible children are properly enrolled.
Traditional leaders, teachers, community organisations, and local authorities have also been urged to support awareness campaigns aimed at maximising participation.
The Authority cautioned against the provision of false information and reiterated that only eligible Ghanaian children should be registered.
Observers believe the exercise will contribute significantly to the government’s efforts to create a comprehensive and reliable national database.
The NIA says it remains committed to ensuring that every eligible Ghanaian obtains a national identity record.
